SDA Public Schools

A special welcome is extended to all of the new faculty members who have joined our staff. Please take any opportunity you can to make the following newcomers feel welcome and part of the SDA family.

These first two teachers were inadvertently left off our newsletter and we apologize for the error.

Mr. Brock Hogue - High School Business

●      Mr. Hogue recently graduated from Northwest Missouri State. He will be teaching Programming, Information Technology, and 8th Grade Computers. This will be his 1st year in education.

Mrs. Mickala Sjulin - High School English

●      Ms. Sjulin recently taught at Nebraska City Middle School, where she taught English Language Arts. This will be her 27th year in education.

Mrs. Darian Carney- 7th Grade Math & Science

●      Mrs. Carney previously served as instructional specialist at Norris Public Schools. She will be teaching 7th grade Science, Math and interventions. This will be her tenth year in education.

Ms. Sophia Chavanu- 7-12 Vocal Music

●      Ms. Chavanu (pronounced Sha-vuh-nah) graduated from Nebraska Wesleyan University this spring and was a student teacher at Waverly Middle School and Eagle Elementary. This will be her first year in education.

Mr. Sam Heitz- K-6 Music

●      Mr. Heitz graduated from the University of Nebraska-Kearney this spring and was a student teacher at Hastings and Kearney Public Schools. This will be his first year in education.

Mr. Clint Little- High School Math 

●      Mr. Little has recently taught at Omaha Sacred Heart and Louisville Public Schools. He will be teaching Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, and Geometry. This will be his 16th year in education.

Mr. Jason Drake- High School Business

●      Mr. Drake has recently taught at Papillion-LaVista High School. He will be teaching Personal Finance, Accounting I and II, and Business Entrepreneurship. This will be his 18th year in education.

Mr. Gracen Sommerer- High School Skilled and Technical Services

●      Mr. Sommerer comes to us from UNL. He has previously done some practicum work at Fremont Public Schools. He will be teaching Building Construction, Introduction to Technology, Woods, Drafting, Metals, Consumer Car Care, and Welding. This will be his 1st year in education. 

Mrs. Brianna Tickle- Speech-Language Pathologist

●      Mrs. Tickle has recently been providing speech-language services in the health setting, and she previously was a speech-language pathologist in Olathe, Kansas. Mrs. Tickle will be serving our birth to 3 children, preschool, some elementary and our high school students.  This will be her sixth year in the education setting.

Mrs. Trisha Babbel- JAG Instructor

●      Mrs. Babbel previously served as JAG Instructor at Weeping Water Public Schools and will remain there 1/2 time. She will be teaching JAG on a 1/2-time basis at Syracuse High School. This will be her third year in education.
