September 2020 Minutes
The meeting of the Board of Education, School District #27, Syracuse, Nebraska, as advertised in the Syracuse Journal-Democrat on September 18, 2020, was called to order at 7:30 p.m. by President Andy Burr. Other board members in attendance included Barry Janssen, Greg Mueller, Jay Weiler and Ed Zastera. Tyler Crownover was absent.
Mr. Burr stated to all in attendance that a current copy of the Nebraska Open
Meetings Act was available for review and indicated the location of such copy in the room where the
meeting was being held.
•• The Board examined the minutes of the meeting held August 17, 2020. Motion by Ed Zastera, seconded by Greg Mueller, to approve the minutes as presented. Voting yes—Mueller, Weiler, Zastera, Burr and Janssen. Voting no--none. Motion carried 5 - 0.
•• The Board examined the secretary and treasurer's reports for the month of September, 2020. Motion by Jay Weiler, seconded by Barry Janssen, to approve the secretary and treasurer's reports for the month of September, 2020. Voting yes—Weiler, Zastera, Burr, Jasnssen and Mueller. Voting no--none. Motion carried 5 - 0.
•• The Board examined the claims for the month of September, 2020. The superintendent gave a brief explanation of the claims. Motion by Greg Mueller, seconded by Barry Janssen, to approve the claims for the month of September, 2020, as presented. The following members voted in favor of the motion—Zastera, Burr, Janssen, Mueller and Weiler. Voting no--none. Motion carried 5 - 0.
•• The Board discussed the evaluation of the superintendent. It was determined that each Board member would submit the completed evaluation form to President Burr not later than Thursday, October 1, 2020. Mr. Burr will score the results, which will be discussed with the superintendent at a special meeting of the Board of Education at 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 13th, in the elementary conference room.
•• The Board held first reading on policy 1361 – Procedures for Complaints of Sexual Harassment
•• The Board reviewed the dates, times and format for the NASB Conference to be held in Omaha. Registration information will be provided by NASB at a later date. Andy Burr will represent the Board at the delegate assembly.
•• Mr. Buller and Mr. Royal gave an overview of how school was going under the current Covid guidelines.
•• Motion by Ed Zastera, seconded by Greg Mueller, to adjourn. Voting yes—Burr, Janssen, Mueller, Weiler and Zastera. Voting no--none. Motion carried 5 - 0. The meeting adjourned at 7:57 p.m.
