FBLA Attends the National Leadership Conference

Eleven members from the Syracuse FBLA chapter and adviser Susan Wellman attended the FBLA National Leadership Conference in Anaheim, California, June 28-July 2. 

Matteo Antunez placed 2nd in Microsoft Office Specialist – Excel at the FBLA National Awards of Excellence Program. The test concentrates on displaying the most advanced parts of the MOS Excel 2013 program such as creative advanced formulas, combo charts, and pivot tables. Results were based on the highest score in the shortest amount of time.  State FBLA Reporter Emma Bjork helped lead meetings for the Nebraska delegates and attended various presentations and officer meetings.

The Syracuse members put in numerous hours preparing for the competitive events prior to the National Leadership Conference. Chloe Moore wrote a 24 page Business Plan which was prejudged and then gave a seven-minute presentation summarizing the plan at the conference. Alyssa Rippe presented her Electronic Career Portfolio to judges. Maddie Werner and Livia Wilhelm prepared a website for a family entertainment center and gave a presentation describing it. Mitchell McWilliams took an Advanced Accounting test. Emma Bjork, Computer Applications; Ben Nannen, Data Base Design and Applications; Reagan Petersen and Meredith Clark, Spreadsheet Applications; all took production tests in May and at the Conference took an objective test. Mitchell McWilliams, Pierce Agena, Reagan Petersen, and Livia Wilhelm all competed in the accounting-based Bank On It Tournament, sponsored by American Institute of CPA’s.

The members also attended finalists’ presentations, exhibits, workshops and general sessions. The Syracuse Chapter received the Gold Seal Chapter Award of Merit. The chapter was recognized for achieving the Chapter Challenge by completing Super Sweeps, Non-Stop November and Action Awareness activities during the 2016-17 membership year.

The 2017 NLC was the biggest ever with over 12,000 in attendance. The Syracuse delegation traveled with 400 others from Nebraska and spent an afternoon at Newport Beach. They also enjoyed time at Disneyland and California Adventure.
