FBLA Has Successful Conference
Six qualify for Nationals
Tyler Wellman was elected the 2009-2010 State FBLA Secretary at
the State Leadership Conference held in Omaha on April 2-4. He will
be attending a variety of leadership workshops in the coming year
including the FBLA National Leadership Conference in Anaheim,
Californian June 23-29. Joining Wellman in California will be
national qualifiers Traci Bassinger, Kayla Bazer and Alex Seelhoff
who placed first with their Business Financial Plan and Rachel
Clymer, who along with Bassinger, placed second in Desktop
Publishing. Rachel Watermeier will also be recognized at the NLC
for achieving the National Business Achievement Award America
Level.
Also finishing in the top eight at the SLC were Stephanie Rodgers,
fifth in Public Speaking I, Rachel Watermeier, third in Spreadsheet
Applications, fourth in Electronic Career Portfolio, fifth in
Computer Applications, seventh in Word Processing II and Who’s Who
in FBLA; Tyler Wellman, fifth in FBLA Principles and Procedures and
sixth in Business Math; Hillary Stubbendick and Alex Seelhoff,
seventh in Business Plan; Rachel Clymer, seventh in Introduction to
Business; Brett Copley and Nate Stilmock, fifth in Emerging
Business Issues.
Receiving honorable mentions, which means they placed in the top
five percent were Ashleigh Teten in Business Math, Proofreading and
Introduction to Business Communications; Brittany Siepelmeier in
Business Math; and Allison Moore in Proofreading.
The chapter received the Sweepstakes Award and the Gold Seal
Chapter Award of Merit for their Annual Report, which placed
eighth. The chapter was also recognized for their scrapbook,
donating money to the March of Dimes and for coordinating the state
project of collecting funds for the Nebraska FBLA Foundation.
Members recognized for obtaining the All-State Quality Member Award
were Traci Bassinger, Kayla Bazer, Hillary Stubbendick, Allison
Moore, Stephanie Rodgers, and Tyler Wellman. Brandon Essink
received a $500 scholarship from the UNL Department of Agricultural
Economics.
Other members attending were Kaci Beckmann, Kelby Goering, Alex
Landwehr, Andy Neels, Nick Reed, Jeni Bennett, Mitch Kunz, Macy
Clark, and Mitch Goering. They were among over 1900 students
registered for the conference and in most events, students were
competing against 300-400 FBLA members from across the state. When
not taking tests or campaigning, members attended a variety of
seminars and general sessions. Patrick George was the featured
speaker.
