Hello KNCY, this is Traci Bassinger with this week’s Rappin’ with the Rockets.
Homecoming week kicked off in Cowboy style on Monday! Tuesday was superhero day, Wednesday was twin day and today is school spirit day! So if you’re a student and you are not wearing green and white, get it on! Tomorrow is beach day but remember to dress appropriately.
The Homecoming pep-rally will be held October 3 in the gym starting at 2:30. The public is invited. Homecoming attendants will be recognized during the half-time of the football game and coronation will take place immediately after the game.
The Homecoming dance will be Saturday, Oct 4th from 8pm to 11pm. Enter the Rocket Zone, but you’ll have to take your shoes off before dancing. The dance is in the gym, so enter through the southwest entrance. Kick your shoes off and dance!
On Wednesday, Oct 1st the American History class took a field trip to both Homestead National Park and Rock Creek Station.
Kelsi Wichmann attended an FCCLA district planning day in Wymore on Wednesday.
Also yesterday, 15 STOP members attended the Leadership Conference at Peru State College.
The SkillsUSA Leadership Conference was on Monday, Sept 29 in Lincoln. Nineteen members attended.
On Saturday, the Rocket Marching Band will compete at the Columbus Marching Festival. They will march in the parade at 9:30 am and will compete in the field show competition at 1 p.m.
FBLA Members picked up trash along Highway 2 last night for the Adopt-A-Highway project. They will be taking orders for food soon.
On Thursday, October 9, auditions for the Fall One act will be held in Mrs. Brockman’s room. There will be a time sheet to sign up for a slot, so if you are interested get there quick.
And now in sports.
The Rocket volleyball team went to the Nebraska City Lourdes triangular last Thursday and came home with two wins, defeating Falls City 25-14, 25-9 and Nebraska City Lourdes 25-6, 25-17.
On Tuesday, the volleyball team traveled to Palmyra in a triangular with Palmyra and Elmwood-Murdock. The Rockets defeated Elmwood-Murdock 25-10, 25-9 and Palmyra 25-9, 25-19.
Tonight, they will host Raymond Central, with games starting at 5.
The Football team traveled to NWU to play Lincoln Lutheran last Friday. The Rockets pounded the Warriors 40-7. Andy Neels led the Rockets with 10 carries for 130 yards. Adam Vogt ran for 72 yards and threw for 137.
Tomorrow, the Rockets will host the Auburn Bulldogs for the homecoming game.
The boys cross country team finished 3rd in the Norris Invite on Saturday. Grant Aden placed 1st, Connor Callahan 5th, Jeremy Dettmer 17th, Josh Bennett 33rd, Garrett Sand 25th, and Mitch Kunz 29th. For the girls, Kali Wilkinson finished 18th and Terra Hartman 22nd.
On Monday, the cross country team traveled to Kearney. The boys finished 3rd out of 21 teams. Grant Aden was the gold medalist and ran the fastest boys time in all four classes. Connor Callahan finished 13th, Jeremy Dettmer 20th, Garrett Sand 34th, Josh Bennett 41st, Mitch Kunz 62nd, Shane Keslar 81st, and Tyler Wellman 108th. For the girls, Kali Wilkinson finished 15th and Terra Hartman finished 26th.
On Friday, the cross country team will host their annual Syracuse Invite, starting at 3:45. Come out and support the team at the Syracuse Country Club.
The Rocket softball team traveled to Plattsmouth last Thursday defeating Plattsmouth 3-2, and Auburn 10-0 in four innings.
On Saturday, the Rockets faced DC West in their opener at the Conference Tournament, hosted by Arlington. The Rockets avenged an earlier season loss and beat the Falcons 2-1. They then were defeated by Wahoo 6-0 and took a 2-0 loss against Bennington in the consolation game. The Rockets hosted Crete on Tuesday and lost 3-2.
The Softball team travels to Falls City tonight with games starting at 5.
The girls golf team traveled to the JCC invite on Monday, bringing home a second place finish. Stephanie Rodgers finished 1st and Rachel Watermeier finished 4th.
Today, they will travel to Wahoo for the Conference Tournament.
