SDA HS Library Transforms into Starbooks: Where the Books are Stars
Mrs. Brockman's English 1 and English 3 students read "a latte" on January 9, 2019, when Mrs. Hestermann and Mrs. Royal transformed the SDA High School Library into Starbooks, modeling the library after a famous coffee shop and book store chain. The activity included a multitude of coffee puns, hot chocolate, and encouraged students to browse books by genre and rate them as "I like it a latte" or "not my cup of tea," ultimately allowing students to choose more books to add to their self-selected reading lists. During the activity, students were encouraged to "read a latte, espresso themselves, and ask friends how they've bean." At the end of the day, as the hot chocolate ran dry, 97 books left Starbooks to go home with students eager to read them.
