Middle School DI is going to Globals
April 13, 2017
The Syracuse Middle School Destination Imagination teams competed at the State Tournament in Kearney April 8th and are excited to share that we are GOING TO GLOBALS!!
These three teams have been working on solutions to a team challenge since last October and have spent many hours preparing for completion in the areas of Engineering, Fine Arts and Technical.
Brilliant Bunch (Jackson Nordhues, Ayva Swift, Gabe Dilly, Logan Johnson and Robert Shanks) over came challenges with last minute repairs, perseverance and a quest to save the moon. They presented the highest Instant Challenge score in the Technical Challenge and secured a 1st place finish!
Full Spectrum (Katelyn Smith, Macy Wittler, Jase Voorhees, Cody Damme and Sam Bennett) presented in the Fine Arts Challenge and with original musical numbers, hand crafted wood props and a chemical reaction they landed in 1st place! They received recognition in the form of a Renaissance Award for outstanding performance and creativity.
Best Intentions (Caleb, Dunster, Creighton Orchard, Lelend Dilly, Koby Pump and Elliot Kuhr) Engineering Challenge team presented a unique story of international teamwork to end a zombie apocalypse. The structure central to their challenge weighed in at a mere 30 grams and boldy supported 640 lbs allowing them to finish in 2nd place!
These 1st and 2nd place finishes allow these 3 teams to advance to Global competition. This is the world's largest celebration of student creativity for teams that have achieved honors in regional and state academic tournaments. The Global Finals will be held at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, Tennessee on May 24-27th.
