Covid-19 Staff Test Positive - UPDATED 10/14/2020

By Buller, Brad

Dear Families

Our District has received confirmation that two additional SDA high school students have tested positive for COVID-19.  The Southeast District Health Department (SEDHD) was notified regarding the positive test result. Currently, we have four staff members and seven students out of school because of a positive test.

SDA Schools and the SEDHD will be working together to notify the families of students and any staff who may have had direct contact with the individual and to determine the best course of action. The course of action will be based upon factors such as the length of contact, whether or not social distancing was feasible, and if masks were being worn by the individual students and staff.  In addition, we are reviewing the possible impact on other SDA events and activities.

Syracuse-Dunbar-Avoca Public Schools takes the health and safety of our students and staff very seriously and will continue to work with the SEDHD to protect our students and staff.  We encourage students, staff, and family to practice good hygiene and virus prevention practices.

  • Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds
  • Cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth

Keep your child at home if they have a fever greater than 100.4 and/or are experiencing one or more of the following symptoms:

  • a new cough
  • new onset of shortness of breath
  • new loss of taste or smell

If you have any questions regarding COVID-19 possible symptoms or exposure, please contact the SEDHD at 402-274-3993

Sincerely

Brad Buller, Superintendent
