84 Middle and High School Students Compete at History Day

On Wednesday March 3, 2010, 84 students from Syracuse Middle and High School attended Peru State College to participate in the annual district history day competition.  This is the first leg of the National History Day competition  where students create a variety of history projects based on a theme.  This years theme was "Innovation in History: Impact and Change".  The students of Mr. Fuller and Mr. Sayer's classes worked on the projects over the last semester.  Students finishing in the top 3 places in their category qualify for the State History day that is held in Lincoln at Nebraska Wesleyan University on  April 17th.  The following students qualified for state and have an opportunity if they finish in the top 2 at the state meet to go to Washington D.C. in June for the national competition.

Junior Division: 

Interpretive Website: 1st-Emily Harsin and Paige Kapperman, 2nd-Haley Harsin and Lindsey Bjork, 3rd-Shelby Burr and Mikayla Kreifels

Group Historical Exhibit: 1st-Anna Rippe and Jemma Romine

Senior Division:

Interpretive Website: 3rd-Jamie Thoms and Brittany Sippelmier

Group Historical Exhibit: 1st-Breanna Oltman and Reanna Grove, 2nd-Ashley Teten and Shane Keslar

Senior Historical Paper:-2nd-Ryan Krueger

Also earning special recognition for the best Southeast Nebraska  Topic was Megan Mcley and Jessa Swanson for their group exhibit over the Vise Grip.
